Evening dress, ca 1840-50 United Kingdom (worn in the United States - Virginia), Colonial Williamsburg As you may have guessed, this was originally a fashionable ca 1750 gown meaning that it was about 100 years old when it was modified.  Yikes!  Could you imagine revamping a dress from 1911?  I’m glad we don’t still do that today.
